After going to BJ's what must be over half a dozen times, I've finally managed to settle on what is a saddening review. Sad because I so badly want to give it 5 stars but I know that I can't, because for every amazing thing, there have been serious drawbacks.

If I could start by giving everyone a word of advice, download the app. The rewards are nice, the features are fine, but it's worth it just for the waitlist feature because one of the first things people tend to notice about BJ's is that it can take FOREVER to get a table. The waitlist doesn't fix that completely but it does help reduce it, much to the chagrin of some other parties that will give you the stink eye when you seemingly jump ahead of them.

The food, by and large, is exceptional. Tons of options, almost too many options but of the things my party has tried when going there, we liked the vast majority of it. The pizookie is especially, addictively good. Unfortunately, they seem to frequently be out of things or, in some situations, have so many things on their menu that the wait staff can't hope to keep up and will end up bringing the wrong thing.

The biggest issue comes with the service. Some days, it has been wonderful, one gentleman in particular we had twice and was truly a joy each time. However, we've also had one of my most singularly awful servers there as well. One who screwed up our order after we repeatedly explained what we wanted, pointed it out explicitly on the menu and she still got it wrong and then blamed us for it.

Save for that one instance, they would always offer a free dessert if there were any problems. Lucky for us but bad for them, we got a lot of free dessert when we went there.

At the end of the day, the restaurant has such potential. A wonderful aesthetic, great food, a little pricey but not too crazy but it's the inconsistency and the service that really drags it down and makes it a gamble each time you walk through the door.

I truly hate giving 1 star ratings but truth be told, this place didn't even deserve that. My husband and I went on a casual Wednesday night. It was busier than expected but not to the point where we had to wait for as long as we did.
Once we got seated and waiter came, it felt like he was more so just trying to up sell us everything. Exp: we asked for waters and he went on and on about their house made juices or something, so my husband got one. It was pure sugar and absolutely awful. We each took a sip to try and left it at the end of the table.
When it came time to order, we got an app (some type of egg roll) and my husband got a burger. I wasn't super hungry, so I asked for a side of mashed potatoes.
Once our app came out, I was absolutely mortified. The plate had finger prints alllll over it. Not just the finger prints after you wipe the plate clean and pick it up. Nope, like food on their thumbs- touched the plate, nobody wiped it off. It was beyond disgusted and I'm all about cleanliness, which that obviously turned me off. So, I asked our waiter for plasticware because I didn't trust the place for being sanitary.
He looked at me with pure disgust and came back with an fork and spoon on a plate (as if he was serving it to me) and he's like "does this do you better?" Whaaaat? Okay bye.
The food wasn't good. The service wasn't good. The cleanliness was nonexistent. If you don't have to, just don't come here.

My first experience with BJ's was at the Chandler, AZ location over 10 years ago. So when we heard that the former Linens 'n' Things was being replaced by a BJ's, we were excited. Surely, it had to be worlds above the generic and forgettable fare pushed by another of its manufactured/franchised "mega-microbreweries," Granite City.

Our first time was about 3 weeks after grand opening. It was the lunch hour. The cavernous restaurant was barely full. The wait time for service and food delivery was astonishingly AWFUL.

It had all the signs of poor management and motivation: staff milling around, chatting with one another, and clearly ignoring us because we "weren't their section."  You know that feeling you get after you're seated, you glance over the menu, and it dawns on you, "y'know, nobody's come by to acknowledge our order or even bring some water...."

    Yeah, that feeling.

My wife and I made eye contact a few times, and were about ready to silently make the pact to leave when our server finally came by.  She was ready with her script because after getting our drink orders, she hurriedly walked away before asking if we were ready to order because we'd been sitting there long enough.

Sign 2 of poor management: server is sticking to the script and afraid to deviate.

We got our beers.  Not bad, but certainly nothing unique.  Like Granite City, it had the taste of mass-produced beer that barely qualifies as "micro" or "craft" just because of the volume produced at their main facility in Whoknowswhere, USA.  Of COURSE they don't brew on-site.  I shouldn't have been so naive.

Ages upon ages later, we get our food.  My wife's was cold, as if it had been sitting on the expediting table (sign #3).  We also noticed water dripping from the ceiling next to our booth.  We notified our server, because even as we were walking in from the host stand, we noticed the floor was too slippery to be safe.

She said she'd tell the manager.  That's great.  Doesn't seem like a manager really cared to do anything.

After the meal, we decided to head to the bar for a few more drinks since it was clear we weren't getting efficient service at the table.  Nope.  More of the same, despite there being three people working the bar.

Took over 15 minutes to be acknowledged by one of the bartenders (again, the restaurant was not busy).  He got our orders and we got our beers another 15 minutes later.  In the meantime, another couple sat next to us, and after 10 minutes of no acknowledgement, they started justifiably grumbling.

Okay, so maybe they're still too new.  The kitchen staff is clearly not gelled into an efficient working unit, managers seem to be nonexistent, and the whole chain is trying too hard with their order-taking iPads that's hindering the servers more than helping (because they don't have to memorize the menu, which then actually SLOWS them down when they're punching through their own menu options instead).

So I and a group of friends went a second time.  Much more busy this time.  There was clearly more hustle from servers and even managers were visible this time.

The kitchen didn't get the memo, again.

Food service was slow, dishes were cold and old, and kitchen ignored special requests like FOOD ALLERGIES.  I had learned from my first experience and stuck to beer, and a small starter plate.

Our friends returned alone a time later, and reported their experience (more of the same, including a badly cooked ribeye).

Ultimately, we're done with BJ's.  There's no need to return to this dumpster fire.  They were not prepared as a staff to be open, despite having existed for several months now.  The servers aren't getting adequate management or back-of-house support, and the attitude of the bar staff is evidence of this.  They're just there for a paycheck and the automatic tips from credit-flashing socialites who care less about quality than being seen or the opportunity to crow about how they went to an upscale "brewery."

There are enough real craft breweries saturating the immediate area.  There are enough restaurants who actually have their service game down.

Very slippery floors. They need to look into the danger of the floors. Not enough people to clean tables, servers were having to clean and serve.

Mini pizza flavor GREAT, however its was microwaved, big disappointment. Ribs GREAT. Burgers GREAT. Service GREAT.

This is the second time I've eaten at BJ's and I enjoyed the food both times. This last time was on a Saturday night around 7 PM so there was a 20 to 25 minute wait. They took our name and we were able to sit outside on one of their benches and wait since they took our phone number and were going to text us when the table was ready.

It took approximately 25 minutes to be seated and the waitress was awesome. She kept our drinks filled and kept checking on us to make sure there were no concerns.

This menu is so extensive that I could probably go back 10 more times and order 10 different things because I had such a hard time making up my mind on what to order!!  It's not often that happens!!  It's a bit loud in the restaurant but since it's a brewery you can expect that.

I will definitely be going back to this restaurant and looking forward to trying some of the more unique items on the menu.
